How are you different from other resume writing services?

I come from a background that includes over 10 years of experience in recruiting and HR for corporate organizations, non-profits, agencies, and startups. Aside from knowing what to look for and what kind of language to use, I’m very aware of what goes on in today’s job market from a hiring perspective. Communicating your skills and experience is no longer enough to get hired. As a candidate, you have to be able to create a compelling story around who you are, the value you bring (and have brought) to the table, and what distinguishes you from an equally qualified person with a similar background.

My work goes beyond asking a few questions and rewriting a document. It’s about understanding who you are as a person, the challenges you’ve encountered in your career and your search, your goals and interests for the next phase of your career, and how to create a cohesive brand message around the value (skills, experience, knowledge) that you bring to the table. I’m always available to my clients for questions and feedback, and many of them continue to work with me in a number of capacities well after we first meet.

I also integrate the principles of information design into my work when I’m designing each document, so you can be assured that all of your great content will be effectively read, scanned, and retained as much as possible, while looking attractive and sleek.

What is your resume writing “philosophy”?

Resume writing is essentially self-promotion at the bare bones, and it’s built upon effective marketing strategies. Being the candidate who stands out from the crowd, gets noticed, and essentially gets hired is all about how you market and position yourself in the competitive and digitally-driven landscape. I’m well-versed in developing and operating small businesses, and have adapted the best brand marketing principles into the career space to help candidates define, develop and promote their brand by understanding the tangible value that they bring to the table for a certain audience. Knowing who this audience is, what you can offer to them, and how to sell that value to them, will make the difference between sitting in the inbox and scoring the interview.

Who will actually be writing my resume?

It’s all me – Dana Leavy-Detrick. I am your resume guru 100% through the entire process and moving forward.

What is your success rate?

Extremely high – over 99%. I have written resumes for over 1000 clients, and have had VERY FEW requested refunds or dissatisfied customers. I handle any and all issues with the highest level of customer service and professionalism because, that’s just how I roll.

Do you work with people outside of Los Angeles?

Absolutely. I’ve worked with clients from virtually every state, and numerous countries across 6 continents (Antarctica for the win!).  All services are conducted remotely via email and phone. I do not offer in-person appointments at this time, with the exception of some interview coaching service, depending upon availability.

How do you work with clients?

All work is done via phone and email. I conduct an in-depth initial phone consultation (30 min) with every client to make sure I get your full story and understand your background, your challenges, your interests, and what you’re targeting, so I can create the best possible product for you.

What kinds of clients do you work with?

My expertise is in the creative industry, including advertising, marketing, design, multimedia and technology. But I have written resumes for just about every industry across the board, for folks ranging from recent grads to 20+ years of experience. I’ve yet to find a scenario that I couldn’t tackle, and a customer that didn’t walk away happy!

You talk a lot about “Personal Branding”. What is that?

YOU are a unique BRAND. And Personal Branding is about approaching your career and your job search almost in the way that you would a business – understanding that you have something of value that, when marketed to the right audience, people are willing to pay for. Your skills, experience, education, knowledge, network of resources and other assets are worth good money, they have value. But it’s about packaging them together in an appealing way, communicating what that value is, understanding who you’re marketing it to, and ultimately how you can leverage all those things in a job or career that benefits both you and an organization mutually.

How much do you charge?

Resume writing services range based upon the complexity of the project and any additional documents that are involved. Basic resume writing, editing, and critiquing services start at $150.

Why don’t you charge based on experience level?

Defining experience level can often be a blurry line when you try to categorize years of experience into specific buckets such as “senior level”. Furthermore, many of my clients are aspiring career changers, which makes it challenging to price a resume based on years of experience alone.

I’m changing careers and need to reposition my experience. Do you work with career changers?

Absolutely. I’ve worked extensively with folks looking to transition industries, specializations, fields and careers. I specialize in helping professional reposition their experience and strengths to appeal to a new industry or line of work, or simply market themselves in a fresh way.

Do you offer a satisfaction guarantee?

Yes. I will do my work based on my HR experience and what I believe to be the best solution for your situation. I don’t offer a money back guarantee based on metrics, because there are many variables in the job search process that are outside of my control. But I do guarantee that I will work with you through the revision process until we have a finalized products that meets your needs and makes you feel confident. In the rare event that a refund is requested, it will only be considered after the revisions process where multiple attempts to rework the document have been made.
